208

Apple has presented its Best Apps and games of 2020 Store winners, the best apps and games selected by publishers each year. Apps and games that have helped make life easier, better and more related over the course of one year are the themes in this year’s selections.

“This year, more than ever before, some of our most creative and connected moments happened in apps,” said Phil Schiller, an Apple Fellow. “Around the world, we saw remarkable efforts from so many developers, and these Best of 2020 winners are 15 outstanding examples of that innovation. From helping us stay fit and mindful, to keeping our children’s education on track, to helping fight hunger, their impact was meaningful to so many of us.”

The iPhone app of the year, Wakeout!, provides you with 30 seconds of exercise and movement adapted to your home, office, car, or parks. Use everything from pillows to cups to outdoor beds to your desk, so you don’t become sedentary, because many of us spend more time at home. Look through a library of more than 1,000 sites and filter by mood and length (powerful, relaxing, intense, or fun). Wakeout! Wakeout. You can download and try a week, and then you’ll get $5 a month or $35 a year to subscribe. With no additional cost, you can add up to 5 people to your subscription.

The Apple’s iPad app, Zoom, was named one of the best ways to connect friends, family, and colleagues during the pandemic, from 10 million daily meeting attendees in December to more than 300 million in April (check out our tips for using Zoom here).

In part due to its family-friendly shows and movies, Apple called Disney Plus the Apple TV app of the year and I must have guessed it gives us more Baby Yoda in season 2 of The Mandalorian. The app is also known as Disney Plus.

The topics of virtual connections, learning, exploring new worlds are also reflected by Apple publishers’ best-known matches of the year: Genshin Impact on iPhone, Runeterra legends on iPad, Disk Elysium on Mac, Dandara Fear Trials on Apple TV, and the Sneaky Sasquatch on Apple Arcade.

The year-round Mac app, Fantastically, aims to make your life easier through the synchronization of all your calendars and notifications. The Apple Watch app of the year, Endel, synchronizes with Apple Health to customize sound scenes to reflect the current state of your body and the immediate environment.

Apple best apps and games of 2020

Apple has also presented a Best of 2020 award for five applications for how they have changed in this extraordinary year.

Caribu is an interactive video chat app which lets you read books, play games and color together almost to stay connected, for grandparents and relatives who cannot personally go to visit their children in their lives. With more home experiences, including a virtual GO Fest in July, PokemonGo reinvented its most popular outdoor gameplay with millions of participants each wandered 15 km (over nine miles) on average during a weekend.

The Explain Everything digital whiteboard app offered students whose classrooms have moved to their homes a cloud-based tool to enable groups of students to continue working together on the remote. The ShareTheMeal app of the United Nations World Food Program has helped people donate food aid during global emergencies, with over 87 million meals shared to date. And a new section dedicated to the intersection of mind and Black lives was launched by the Shine application for daily self-care.

Most downloaded apps of 2020

Apple has published the most downloaded iPhone and iPad apps and games free of charge over and above App Store’s editorial picks.

Zoom has been the top free iPhone and iPad app downloaded. TikTok and Disney Plus for iPhone, Disney Plus, and YouTube for iPad were followed.

TouchRetouch, Procreate Pocket, and Dark Sky Weather were the top-paying iPhone apps, while Procreate, GoodNotes, and Notability were top-paying iPad applications.
