Nest Cam IQ Indoor

The $299 Nest Cam IQ Indoor looks like the doorbell of Nest Hello. It contains facial recognition and lets you know who is standing in front of the camera with consistent accuracy if you sign up for a Nest Aware subscription.

It has a number of further advantages, however. Nest gave it an integrated Google Assistant speaker because it is an indoor camera. This means that the camera essentially doubles as a Google Home speaker and is able to answer basic questions like current conditions or traffic in your area – and control a number of smart home devices from the Google Assistant. It works with Amazon Alexa.

Nest Hello

The Nest Hello, Nest Cam IQ Indoor, and Nest Cam IQ Outdoor (all of whom are essentially the same camera) win far and wide if we talk about sheer facial recognition capabilities. The Nest Hello is my first choice for facial recognition because it is the lowest price and the most likely way for you to know who is in front of you.

Nest’s IQ Indoor can tell you who’s already in your house, but the Outdoor Cam and the Hello can tell you who’s outdoors. The eye-level location at Hello Doorbell is the best way of monitoring and seeing the majority of visitors (although we think that if you want the $349 IQ Outdoor cam can be installed).

The snack with the Hello Nest and other Nest Cams is that the face recognition feature needs to be paid for by you. You must therefore subscribe to the Nest Aware cloud subscription service for facial identification.

Tend Secure Lynx

The Secure Tend Lynx costs only $60. I was skeptical because I was going to deliver this camera, but it does. The camera itself not only does well and has several nice features, such as free 7-day event video clip storage, but also free facial recognition (unlike the optional Nest Aware service).

Create your family face database and take over the Lynx. Every face is known as a bit of a learning curve, but it is a very good choice if you want an indoor, cost-effective home safety camera with a decent recognition of your face.
