Samsung is Manufacturing New Types of AI Smartphones

Samsung is making a significant wager that artificial intelligence (AI) will transform the smartphone market. President TM Roh’s mobile division of the corporation is devoting most of its resources to creating AI-enabled gadgets.

While Samsung’s AI software has already been seen in glimpses on certain recent Galaxy phones, Roh hints at a significant change in the hardware.

Roh revealed in an interview with the Australian Financial Review that Samsung phones in the future would not resemble the rectangular ones made today. “Mobile” AI smartphones may have bigger screens, more sensors, or possibly entirely new form factors; however, specifics are yet lacking.

With the S Pen, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra and Z Fold 6 have already demonstrated AI’s promise by turning basic sketches into complex pictures. Still, the company has much higher goals than just Photoshop. AI will be incorporated into the production of text, video, audio, and 3D material.

Samsung is investigating the potential of accessories, including its headphones, which will include functions like language translation, to improve the AI experience. With dual-screen features like translator mode, Samsung’s folding phones—especially the Z Fold 6—are ideally positioned to benefit from artificial intelligence.

Although AI products are on the market, they have yet to be widely successful, indicating that Samsung is in uncharted territory. To rethink the smartphone, the corporation is investing a significant amount of money in research and development for this grand project.
