News Desk: Ministry of IT and Telecom through USF Pakistan has approved 09 Projects worth approx. PKR 8.15 Billion to provide High-Speed Mobile Broadband services to approx. 7.59 Million people in un-served & under-served areas of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

A number of initiatives to provide high-speed mobile broadband solutions to residents in un-served or under-served regions in Pakistan, areas that are not generally seen as economically feasible for Telecom Corporations, are being worked on by the Universal Service Fund (USF), which is the foundation of the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT).
In an exclusive interview with Pakistan Observer, the USF CEO Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary outlined various efforts and encouragement offered to USF’s telecommunications players – Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, Zong and many others — for network development and advanced services in Sindh Inland regions, southern Punjab, remote regions of Balochistan, formerly Fede (KP).

“The USF awarded approximately 5.2 billion PKR contracts for high-speed Mobile Broadband services to Zong, Telenor, Ufone, and PTCL in the month of October, including 1,137 Unserved areas and 1,078 km of optical fiber cable in distant Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan,” Haaris Mahmood said. “Over 06 million people will have Internet access after infrastructure deployment is finished, which represents a major achievement in achieving socio-economic advantages and growth results.”
