In order to make room for the company’s chief product officer, Neal Mohan, to take over as CEO of the Alphabet-owned video streaming network, former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki resigned from her position. Mohan, a senior YouTube executive who has been close to Wojcicki for 15 years, was chosen as her replacement.

“One of my top aims after joining YouTube nine years ago was to assemble a stellar leadership team. Neal Mohan was one of those executives, and he will take over as SVP and new CEO of YouTube, according to a letter from Wojcicki to the staff.

Wojcicki’s resignation marks the end of YouTube’s and its parent firm, Googleearly, ,’s pioneering years and extends the growing list of women who have recently left key positions at significant Silicon Valley organisations.

Wojcicki will continue to serve as an advisor for Google’s parent firm, Alphabet. At a time when artificial intelligence was about to revolutionise many of the company’s products, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai requested that she advise companies throughout the company’s portfolio.

Since 2015, Neal Mohan has held the position of chief product officer at YouTube. Mohan had previously worked for the dominant internet search company Google, which he had joined in 2008.

“I’ve worked with Neal for almost 15 years, starting in 2007 when Google acquired DoubleClick and continuing as his position grew to become SVP of Display and Video Advertising. In 2015, he was appointed Chief Product Officer of YouTube. Since then, he has established an outstanding product and UX team, been a key player in the introduction of some of our biggest products, such as YouTube TV, YouTube Music, Premium, and Shorts, and has served as the team leader for our Trust and Safety department, ensuring that YouTube fulfils its duty as a global platform. According to Wojcicki’s letter.

What’s his background?

Mohan, a Stanford alum, has also held a managerial position in corporate strategy at Microsoft.

Mohan formerly worked at DoubleClick, an online advertising firm that Google bought in 2007.

The invention of numerous of Google’s advertising products, including AdWords, AdSense, and DoubleClick, has been credited to Mohan, who is well known for his skill in digital advertising.

Following the announcement, Mohan tweeted, “Thank you, @SusanWojcicki. Over the years, working with you has been incredible. You’ve transformed YouTube into a remarkable hub for users and artists. I’m eager to carry out this fantastic and crucial duty. I’m looking forward to what’s coming up.

Expanding its content subscriptions has been a top priority for YouTube as it has always sought to diversify its revenue streams.

A 30 million increase from the prior year, YouTube reported in November that it had 80 million paying customers for its music and premium services.
