This month marks the start of the eighth iteration of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The 2022 competition will begin on October 16 and conclude with an Australian final on November 13. After winning the men’s T20 global championship for the first time in Dubai last year, Australia is the current champion. When is it?
On October 16, Sri Lanka will play Namibia in the tournament’s opening match. The final performance is slated for November 13 during its almost month-long run.
Who will host the T20 World Cup?
On home soil, Australia will defend their championship. At the MCG, The SCG, the Gabba, the Adelaide Oval, the Perth Stadium, the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, and Kardina Park in Geelong, matches are being played around the nation.

Every match of the tournament will be shown live on Sky Sports.
What is the tournament schedule?
The World Cup gets under way with Sri Lanka vs Namibia on October 16 (5am BST start).
England’s group-stage fixtures are as follows:
- Saturday, October 22 | vs Afghanistan, 12pm BST
- Wednesday, October 26 | vs Qualifier TBC, 5am BST
- Friday, October 28 | vs Australia, 9am BST
- Tuesday, November 1 | vs New Zealand, 8am GMT

The semi-finals take place on November 9 and 10, with the final at the MCG on November 13.
What is the tournament format?
Eight countries compete in the first round of the T20 World Cup, with Namibia, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and the Netherlands in Group A and Ireland, Scotland, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies in Group B.
The winning team and runner-up from each group advance to the following group stage, joining the teams who have previously qualified, effectively forming the preliminary stage. As a result, Group 1 will consist of Australia, Afghanistan, England, New Zealand, as well as the Group A winner and Group B runner-up, and Group 2 will consist of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, South Africa, as well as the Group B winner and Group A runner-up.
The top two finishers from each Super 12 group advance to the knockout rounds, which include semi-finals and the final, the latter of which will take place on November 13.
T20 World Cup tables
Eight of the 16 participating teams have already qualified for the Super 12 stage of the competition. Based on the results of the qualifier games, four more teams will join them.
The following countries have qualified for the Super12s: Australia, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, the West Indies, Afghanistan, South Africa, and England.
The top two players from each group of the Super 12 stage advance to the knockout stages after that.
