PlayStation unveils bug bounty program

Sony PlayStation 5

PlayStation has launched a bug bounty program where it will pay you for breaking into their system, the new console, and accessories. Sony is working on the initiative with HackerOne and encourages security researchers, players, and consumers to test protection through the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Network.

“The security of our products is a fundamental part of creating amazing experiences for our community,” the PlayStation blog said.

Sony is currently looking for a PS4 system, OS, Accessories, and PSN reports. A vital error on the PSN will cost $3,000, a $1,000 high-severity error, $400 medium gravity, and $100 low severity.

The payouts on the PS4 are higher, with a critical bug paying out $50,000, $10,000 of high severity, $2,500 of medium severity, and $500 of low severity.

Currently, it will not compensate for bugs found on PS1, PS2, PS3, Playstation Vita or PSP, or third-party apps.
