Government Extends Deadline for Vehicle Emission Testing and M-Tag Registration
Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has extended the deadline for mandatory vehicle emission testing and M-Tag installation by one more week.

In a recent move, the Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has extended the deadline for mandatory vehicle emission testing and M-Tag installation by one more week.
Who is affected—and what’s required
-
The extension applies to intercity, interdistrict, and interprovincial transport operators.
-
All such operators now have seven additional days to get emission tests done and ensure M-Tag installation on their vehicles.
-
Bus terminals in Islamabad have been directed to submit daily reports of inspection and M-Tag compliance until full adherence is achieved.
What happens if they fail to comply
The authorities have warned that failure to meet the extended deadline will result in cancellation of the bus stand’s NOC (No Objection Certificate), effectively halting operations from non-compliant stands.
Background—Why the extension
This decision comes as part of a broader crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles in the capital and a push to enforce environmental standards and traffic regulation.
To support the effort, the ICT (Islamabad Capital Territory) administration has set up 10 M-Tag counters and 4 emission-testing points across key locations for easier and faster compliance.
In recent days, 1,563 vehicles underwent emission testing and were issued clearance stickers—showing growing public response to the campaign.
What motorists and operators should do
-
Transport operators and bus-terminal managers should immediately book appointments for emission testing and M-Tag installation—and submit required reports as instructed.
-
Private and commercial vehicle owners should treat this extension as a final opportunity to comply—to avoid potential fines, vehicle impoundment, or loss of NOC for buses.
-
Citizens should check for the nearest M-Tag and emission-testing centers for convenience, especially given the increased number of service points across Islamabad.
