Introducing the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, a Smartphone With a 50MP Selfie Camera, Wireless Charging, and More

After a bunch of stories and hints, Motorola’s latest Edge phones finally arrived here, and they’re starting to ship in India. Specifications-wise, the new Motorola Edge 50 Pro is in the top mid-range, and the price tag suits those specs.

Display and Design

The front of Edge 50 Pro has a curved 6.7-inch pOLED display with a resolution of 1220p and an amazing refresh rate of 144Hz. With a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits, this panel sets a new standard. It is also the first smartphone to offer Pantone-validated colors, which means that colors and skin tones will be more accurately displayed.

It’s worth mentioning that the screen has a fingerprint reader built right in. It also has an IP68 rating, which means it is resistant to water and dust coming in.

Software builds Quality

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 specs tipped, launch expected in Q1, 2024

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip handles the hardware, and users may choose from 8 GB to 12 GB of RAM. There is only one 256 GB storage option, though. There is no memory card slot for adding more space.

Software-wise, Android 14 has Motorola’s new HelloUX interface, which supports generative AI features like unique wallpapers.

On the back of the Edge 50 Pro, there is a good camera setup, with a 50MP main camera that has an f/1.4 lens and optical image stabilization (OIS). The main camera comes with a 10 MP telephoto lens that can optically zoom in three times and a 13 MP ultrawide lens that can be used as both an ultrawide and closeup camera.

Remarkable is the addition of Motorola’s AI Photo Enhancement Engine, which makes this the first Motorola smartphone to use this technology. This engine has custom optimizations for color segmentation and motion capture that make photos better overall. The front-facing camera is also 50 MP and can take videos in 1080p and 4K.

Battery and Pricing

The Edge 50 Pro comes with a 4,500 mAh battery and can be charged quickly with up to 125W for wired charging and 50W for wireless charging.

The renowned Italian design house Mazzucchelli created the Motorola Edge 50 Pro in 1849, and it is available in black and purple as well as a special limited edition version called Moonlight Pearl.

In India, the Edge 50 Pro starts at $383 for the 8/256 GB model and goes up to $431 for the 12/256 GB model.
