On Monday, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, received a high-level World Bank delegation in her office under the leadership of Mr. Martin Raiser, South Asia Regional Vice President (SARVP) for the World Bank.
The Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication welcomed the WB delegation in her office, and during the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on Pakistan’s digital transformation journey, digital economy, connectivity, 5G, and the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP).
The Federal Secretary of the Ministry of IT & Telecom, Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood, and Ms. Tania Aidrus, Convener of the Digital Pakistan Committee, were also present at the meeting.
While talking to the delegation, Minister of State for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima said that the government of Pakistan is committed to digitalization as the country is moving on the path of digital transformation.
She said that the Digital Pakistan Policy is paving the way for Pakistan’s digital transformation journey to the next level.
Shaza Fatima said that the vision of the government for digital Pakistan is to bring social and economic prosperity and citizen empowerment through digital transformation.
She said that under the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the private sector is being extended full support. The private sector is being provided with an enabling environment to take the lead in the digitalization process in the country.
Talking about the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, the Minister of State for IT said that DEEP will be completed within the timeline.
The WB delegation appreciated the efforts for digitalization in the country, and the two sides agreed to continue collaboration regarding the implementation of the different phases of DEEP.
Member Telecom Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim, Member IT Syed Junaid Imam, and DG International Coordination Syed Jawwad Ali Sherazi also attended the meeting.
