Today, Federal Minister Syed Aminul Haque met with a group headed by Mikhail Gerchuk, CEO of Etisalat International. In some locations in the nation’s largest cities, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication intends to launch “trial coverage” of 5G services this year.

According to a ministry official speaking to APP, “the introduction of 5G technology is related to the future of technology in Pakistan, and the ministry is taking all reasonable steps to make new technology business-friendly.”

He said that the Ministry of IT was giving telecom businesses its full support and urged them to do their part in introducing modern technology to Pakistan.

He added that the ministry of IT had launched approximately 70 projects for the development of optical fibre cable (OFC) and broadband infrastructure in four provinces for Rs 65 billion through the Universal Service Fund (USF), stating that the provision of broadband services throughout the nation was the government’s top priority. “By June, all work under process in remote locations would be finished.”

PTCL & Ufone CEO Hatem Bamatraf, Secretary IT Mohsin Mushtaq Chandna, Etisalat Pakistan CEO Abdulrahim Abdulla Abdulrahim Al Nooryani, and Group Chief Regulatory Officer Naveed Khalid Butt were also present. Before moving on to bigger and better choices, 4G technology coverage and expansion across the nation, according to Aminul Haq, is the government’s primary goal.

The federal minister cited the Digital Pakistan goal and elaborated on Pakistan’s background in digital connectivity when he remarked that the deployment of 5G technology would determine the country’s technological future. No one, according to the minister, wants Pakistan to fall behind in the battle for global technical dominance, so businesses and other interested parties should start making plans to foster inclusive, sustainable technological growth for Pakistan’s long-term potential and prosperity.

Aminul Haque also let the team know that the ministry was offering all necessary assistance to any mobile company. The federal minister urged all telecom businesses to contribute to introducing advanced technologies to Pakistan in order to emphasise the significance of the sector’s long-term growth.

Due to the aforementioned, the IT minister gave the group the assurance that every effort was being made at the highest level to make 5G more business-friendly. Before nationwide deployment, 5G experiments would begin at specific locations in key cities, he noted. The Federal Minister Aminul Haque received praise from the Etisalat delegation for the government’s initiatives to enhance telecom services in Pakistan.

The CEO of e& International, Mikhail Gerchuk, highlighted the importance of information technology and telecommunications to the nation’s overall economic development and declared that the business is prepared to make investments in a range of related fields.

According to the official, 20 NGBSD and OFC projects totaling Rs 16.3 billion have been launched so far in 20 districts throughout Sindh, including Tharparkar, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Larkana, Badin, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Mirpurkhas, and Dadu.

He said that initiatives to connect the underserved and unserved populations in the provinces of Baluchistan, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) had also been started. Over 16,000 kilometres of optical fibre cable (OFC) were purchased by USF under its Next Generation Optic Fiber (NG-OF) Network and Services programme, which will assist 31.5 million people nationwide.
