LinkedIn to Eliminate Hashtag Feed Amid Platform Discovery Changes

LinkedIn is saying goodbye to its hashtag feed. Why? Simple—hardly anyone was using it.

LinkedIn is saying goodbye to its hashtag feed. Why? Simple—hardly anyone was using it.

The Big Change

The platform discovered that its smart algorithms now do a better job of connecting posts with the right people. No hashtags needed.

Rishi Jobanputra leads product development at LinkedIn. He explained the shift in a recent video: “Our feed algorithms have really evolved over the past decade. We’re just doing a better job at understanding what content is about.”

What This Means for You

Don’t panic. Hashtags aren’t disappearing completely. You can still use them for searching specific topics. But here’s Jobanputra’s advice: Pick hashtags that actually match your content. And don’t go crazy with them.

Following the Trend

LinkedIn isn’t alone in this move. Instagram also pulled the plug on its “following hashtags” feature in December 2024. The goal? Cut down on spam and low-quality posts.

Meanwhile, X (formerly Twitter) still relies heavily on hashtags for trending conversations. Though they did drop hashtags from promoted posts.

The Bottom Line

LinkedIn wants quality over quantity. Instead of stuffing posts with hashtags, focus on writing clearly. The platform’s algorithm will handle the rest—matching your content with people who actually want to see it.

Your post visibility now depends on clear writing, not hashtag spam.
