Breaking News: Punjab is grappling with a dangerous flood situation as three of its major rivers have burst their banks, threatening dozens of cities and towns across the province.

Rivers in Crisis

The National Emergency Operation Center has issued urgent flood warnings after monitoring water levels across Punjab’s river system. The situation is particularly alarming along three key waterways:

Chenab River: The Biggest Threat

The Chenab River is experiencing its worst flooding, with massive water volumes rushing through critical points:

  • Khanki: A staggering 859,000 cusecs of water is flowing through this area
  • Qadirabad: Even higher flows of 910,000 cusecs have been recorded
  • Next stop: The floodwater is now heading toward Trimun

To put this in perspective, these are extraordinarily high water volumes that pose serious risks to nearby communities.

Cities and towns in the flood path include Gujrat, Hafizabad, Pindi Bhattian, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot, and Jhang.

Ravi River: Lahore in the Crosshairs

The Ravi River is also causing major concern:

  • Water flow jumped from 139,000 cusecs at Jasr to 164,000 cusecs at Shahdara
  • This surge directly threatens Lahore and surrounding areas

Lahore neighborhoods at risk: Shahdara, Kot Mando, Jia Musa, Aziz Colony, Qaiser Town, Faisal Park, Dher, and Kot Begum.

Other affected areas:

  • Sheikhupura district: Dhammiki, Dakka, and Burj Attari
  • Nankana Sahib district: Ganeshpur
  • Khanewal district: Ghospur, Mian Channu, Umidgarh, Kot Islam, and Abdul Hakeem

Sutlej River: Southern Punjab Under Threat

The Sutlej River completes the triangle of concern:

  • Ganda Singh Wala: 261,000 cusecs flowing through
  • Salmiyanki: 109,000 cusecs in low-lying areas

Kasur district communities at risk: Phool Nagar, Rakh Khanke, Nathe Khalsa, Limbe Jagir, Kot Sardar, Hanjare Kala, Bhattralka, and Nowsheergai.

Additional districts expecting floods: Pakpattan, Vehari, Nankana Sahib, Okara, and Bahawalnagar.

Government Response in Full Swing

Following direct orders from the Prime Minister, Pakistan’s disaster response machinery is working around the clock:

  • National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is overseeing all rescue and relief operations
  • National Emergency Operation Center is operating 24/7 to monitor the situation
  • Coordination efforts are underway between civilian authorities and military institutions

What This Means

These flood levels represent a serious emergency for millions of people living along these river systems. Residents in the mentioned areas should stay alert for evacuation orders and follow all guidance from local authorities.

The government’s emergency response teams are actively monitoring the situation and coordinating relief efforts as the floodwaters continue to move through the affected regions.
