How to use Samsung Smart Switch correctly

We’ll show you the installation on Windows, but it’s a standard install on Mac as well:

  • Go to the Samsung Smart Switch Website.
  • Click on the download link for Windows or Mac, whatever system you use, for this method we use Windows.
  • Click to play the downloaded .exe file “.dmg on your Mac.”
  • If you receive an error message stating that the application failed to start because the side-by-side configuration is incorrect, download and install the Microsoft Visual C ++ package.
  • Click the check boxes to verify that you accept the terms of the license agreement.
    Click Next.
  • Click Finish once the installation process is complete, and the Smart Switch will be turned on by default.

How to set up Smart Switch for the first time

  • Run the Smart Switch application after installing from the desktop icon on your computer.
  • Connect your phone to the computer via a USB cable To start, you may be prompted to allow USB files to be transferred to your phone.
  • Switch to and unlock your phone and scroll down from the top to pull the notification shade.
  • Click Notifications for other USB options.
  • Click the File Transfer option.
  • When you switch back to the computer, your phone must now be connected to the application.

How to back up your phone data using Smart Switch

Once the app is turned on and connected to your phone, backing up your data is very easy:

  • Run the application on the computer.
  • Click Backup.
  • You will be asked to allow access permissions on your phone.
  • Pick up your phone.
  • Click Allow, and if you have a micro SD card in your phone, you will also have the option to support this data.
  • Once the backup is complete, you will get an analysis of all data that was backed up successfully, and click OK to finish.

How to restore your phone from a previous backup using Smart Switch

If it’s time to upgrade to a new Samsung phone or an error occurs, requiring you to restore your data, it’s very easy to do so if you have a Smart Switch backup.

  • Run the application on your computer and connect your phone via USB.
  • Click Restore.
  • Click Select a different backup if you want to restore from a previous backup, otherwise click Restore Now.
  • You will be asked to allow access permissions on your phone.
  • Switch focus to your phone, click Allow to continue the restore process.
  • Once the restore process is complete, you will get an analysis of the recovered data, and then click OK to finish the restore.
