In an unsurprising move given that various publications pretty much leaked Apple’s plans ahead of schedule, the Cupertino brand has unveiled Product Red Special Editions for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus but nothing for the iPhone X, though.

The announcement comes a year after Apple announced similar editions for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Product Red, for the uninitiated, is part of the Global Fund, which supports programs around the world aiming to fight HIV and AIDS.

“This special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS,” stated Greg Joswiak, Apple’s marketing VP in an official press release.

iPhone 8 Product Red Edition

This edition of the iPhone 8 slaps a stunning red glass back, accented with an aluminum edge band and, unlike the Product Red iPhone 7, a sleek black front that better complements the red color scheme.

Similarly, the Touch ID button is black to match the gorgeous front panel. The back features the same striking Apple logo found on last year’s models.

Final impressions about the phone’s design should make their way once critics actually get their hands on Apple’s shiny new toy, but below is a photo of its back and front panels.

No Product Red Edition For iPhone X

Missing from the lineup is a Product Red Edition of the iPhone X. Apple has not formally addressed why it’s chosen to exclude its most expensive flagship in the Product Red portfolio.

Perhaps it’s because of the phone’s design and maybe, the iPhone X’s stainless steel band edges aren’t as conducive to tinting red as the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus’s aluminum. It’s also possible that Apple is really planning to release a gold color option like the rumors said, but even so, why would it be a problem?

Anyhow, the iPhone X isn’t totally abandoned. Apple also introduced a Product Red Leather Folio accessory for the device, which becomes available on April 10. Apple says it’s “crafted from specially tanned and finished European leather for a luxurious look and feel.”

Apple has collectively contributed over $160 million in the last 11 years. According to Deborah Dugan, (RED)’s CEO, it is equivalent to 800 million days of life-saving ARV medication that prevents the spread of HIV from mothers to their infants.
